Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Higher Education)

The Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Higher Education) is offered by the Institute for Teaching and Learning through the Faculty of Education and Social Work. It is designed for university teachers. The emphasis of the course is on improving student learning rather than on instructional methods. The course aims to provide university teachers with opportunities to reflect on educational theory and student learning research from the perspective of their own teaching experiences through the scholarship of teaching and learning. It is designed to support staff in developing their professional expertise as university teachers in order to better understand and enhance the learning of their students.

The curriculum and teaching of the Graduate Certificate is informed by a set of core principles. The Graduate Certificate consists of four units of part-time study over two semesters.

A University of Sydney Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Higher Education) degree is awarded after successful completion of these four units.

Because of the demand for places in the Graduate Certificate, the University has put in place selection criteria to determine who is eligible to enrol from among the University’s staff.

Course fees for the Graduate Certificate are waived by the university for all approved university staff, but there is an expectation that graduands will mentor future students when approached. Please note that there is no mid year intake.
